SUPPORTING OUR SISTERS
FAMILY LEADERSHIP PROGRAM

Supporting Our Sisters Family Leadership Program offers educational skill building workshops and activities that provide parents and caregivers with the necessary tools to become more effective, consistent and active parents/caregivers. Our workshops are designed to help parents to increase their awareness of positive approaches to effective parenting so that they can raise well rounded, happy, successful children.  We do this by offering evidence-based curricula: Nurturing Parenting, Strengthening Multi- Ethnic Families and Communities, plus others.  The classes are held for 12 weeks with day or evening offerings, and are facilitated by a Masters level professional. The workshops are designed to offer more emotional support to parents in their quest to be better parents, unite with their children, and/or enhance existing positive parenting skills.

We partner with organizations and agencies who host the classes in their community.  A limited number of classes are conducted in the offices of PBWHA. Participants have access to referrals for food, furniture, clothing and linkage to other community resources customized to the needs of their family. Childcare and transportation assistance are offered for participation in our parenting classes and events.

OBJECTIVES:

  1. To increase parents’ knowledge about what constitutes abuse and neglect, including parental responsibilities
